I am afraid I am late to the party on this one, but the Big E (CVN-65) is back in Norfolk. The aircraft carrier returned from its last deployment this morning. The oldest CVN in the Navy, gone. It was comissioned on 25 November 1961, not to be confused with the vessel of the same name, commissioned in 2245.
The USS Enterprise (CVN-65) is our oldest nuclear carrier at more than fifty years young. It is due to be de-commed shortly. And their current problem centers around locks.
The Navy can lose us the war, but only the Air Force can win it. Therefore our supreme effort must be to gain overwhelming mastery in the Air. The Fighters are our salvation . . . but the Bombers alone provide the means of victory. . . . In no other way at present visible can we hope to overcome the immense military power of Germany.
