There was once a ‘before and after’ photograph of a RN ship that had spent a 6 month deployment around the Caribbean, which I am desperately trying to find.
It shows the ships crew lining the deck in full splendour on departure, and upon return the photograph showed several matelots minus good conduct badges, (he-he, jolly jack tar bless em)!

And we remember those times well…deployments …Pearl Harbor and submarine deployments ….wow….underwater for three months….almost as tedious as the six month variety on the surface…and just as much fun…..k
