A Sailor who worked in my old shop was going to try out for the Navy band and leave his then-current rating behind. He read off to me all the pre-requisities that he was required to meet. It was quite extensive. Generally the band folks stay in the background; I am not sure the Marine Corps Band was prepared to get this much publicity over an observation at the inauguration:
The controversy began when a spokesman for the Marine Corps Band who provided the musical accompaniment for the song said on Tuesday that she did not in fact sing in real time, instead opting for a pre-recorded track of the song.
Hours later, a Marine spokesman backed off the claim and insisted he didn’t know one way or the other, ’no one in the Marine Band is in a position to assess whether it was live or pre-recorded’.
Earlier Tuesday Master Sgt. Kristin duBois said the band was notified at the last minute that Beyoncé would use a pre-recorded voice track.
But later Marine Corps spokesman Capt. Gregory Wolf said that because there was no opportunity for Beyonce to rehearse with the Marine Band, it was determined that a live performance by the band was ill advised.
Gotta cover your tracks. . .

Also she was practicing for the Superbowl next weekend and it conflicted w/the inaugural anthem.
Don’t know, didn’t watch, didn’t care, didn’t need to be made sick at my stomach.
Bottom line, she screwed the pooch because she didn’t show up to practice with the band…
Waaay back when I was in College, I was in the marching band. We travelled with the team to play for away games. I played the Trombone and a number of times the weather was so cold that our instruments froze (for me, my slide wouldn’t move.) We played recorded music while we marched through the routine.
I was only in the marching band my Freshman year. I quickly discovered why there were few upperclassmen there. Marching/Playing in sub-freezing weather, in sleet, snow and freezing rain is no fun.
Veronica: Ah ha! Good gouge, tks!
CP: Haha! RGR.
Old NFO: Yup, pretty much.
Crucis: That does not sound like fun. But as long as all your friends were there (or some.) It’ll be fun for a little bit. . .
A woman faking a performance? Imagine that.
