Most Depressing Day of the Year

Standby Shipmates, do not despair. Monday may be the most depressing day of the year. Get on yer peacoat, batten down the hatches, and put a smile on your lips. If you want to blame anyone, Melanie McDonald, of Anglian Home Improvements, is your huckleberry. She commissioned the study: The survey shows a clear link between natural daylight, mood and motivation. Thank you Melatonin, I mean Melanie.

  1. It’s February for me – when you get a taste of spring-like weather now and then only to be thrown back into serious winter weather. Yep, I could live without February.

  2. From my window I am watching snowflakes drop slowly, with barely a breeze to push them along; having not long returned from a walk along the snow covered blackthorn hedgerows around the fields that surround my home, I am ready for a sit down next to an open log fire, that has two cedar logs ‘crackling & spitting’ as they burn.

My nose and my feet are just warming through; my face is now glowing.

On the table in front of me are a pot of scalding hot tea and a fresh pork pie with English mustard in a jar. My appetite is aroused sufficiently to devour it, but I wish to savour the moment. The Times newspaper and the features within await my approval.

The house is absolutely silent save for the fire’s noise and Joss’s snoring (he is acting as the fire guard)!

Far from the madding crowd, this is absolute bliss… I refuse to do depressing days.

    Yours Aye.

  3. Lou: RGR, we will let the calendar makers know of your desires. Maybe they will can’x Feb. . .
EB: I love it. I don’t let the weather get me down either. Of course, I live in San Diego. Where it is sunny 323 days out of the year. . .

  4. There was a good reason for January 21st being the most depressing day of the year….we might in approximately twenty-two months be able to peek out of that hole we’ve found ourselves in with some optimism but then again who knows?? There appear to be a likelihood of more depressing days ahead but I for one refuse to give up….k
