The small bit of coast in Iraq (but with the great port city of Basra) is in the South. Southern Iraq is pretty solidly Shi’ai (also the dominant branch of Islam in Iraq as a whole). There is a great deal of sympathy with Iran in that territory since they are coreligionists. Is it a good idea for us to build an Iraqi navy there?
Ah yes, I was an Iraqi linguist when I was enlisted. Basra is an interesting city, the Brits had it in their region when we (the aircrew I was with) were flying over there. And rgr your concern, we need to be careful. . .
