The Iraqi Navy Gets a Pair

Iraq has a little strip of coastline, down at the north end of the Arabian Gulf. And we just delivered two support ships to assist their Navy in coastal operations. . .

  1. The small bit of coast in Iraq (but with the great port city of Basra) is in the South. Southern Iraq is pretty solidly Shi’ai (also the dominant branch of Islam in Iraq as a whole). There is a great deal of sympathy with Iran in that territory since they are coreligionists. Is it a good idea for us to build an Iraqi navy there?

    • Ah yes, I was an Iraqi linguist when I was enlisted. Basra is an interesting city, the Brits had it in their region when we (the aircrew I was with) were flying over there. And rgr your concern, we need to be careful. . .

        • Haha, I’m US Navy. Thanks for the compliment. (This could have been a sticky situation, but as EB warned me below, I must tread carefully.) I was a CTI. . .

  2. Don’t take the bite NavyOne, it’s a big hook and once you take it you will be reeled in good n proper…

    Yours Aye.
