Have you read the novel “A Thousand Splendid Suns” by Khaled Hosseini from Afganistan? I realize it is different countries – but this novel basically follows a woman through life in Afganistan, including a near death experience like the one Shaima must have endured. My daughter and I read it at the same time earlier this year so we could discuss it. For as far as the world has come, we have so far to go.
