Video Game Gets Seven SEALs NJP?

NJP stands for non-judicial punishment and it is a way for a commander to assess smaller than court-martial penalties against a Sailor. We call it either Captain’s Mast or Admiral’s Mast in the Navy depending on the rank of the senior presiding over the action. And apparently, seven members of SEAL Team 6 went through NJP proceedings for assisting in the development of a video game:

Seven members of the secretive Navy SEAL Team 6, including one involved in the Usama bin Laden raid, have been punished for allegedly disclosing classified information, two senior military officials tell Fox News.

They were accused for their role working as paid consultants for a video game company producing “Medal of Honor: Warfighter.” The official says four other SEALs are under investigation for similar alleged disclosures, but are still on active duty.

Medal of Honor: Warfighter, made with help from Navy SEAL Team 6 members

The seven received what the military calls “nonjudicial” punishment on Wednesday. They were given letters of reprimand, which is often, but not exclusively, a career ending punishment — it depends on the commander’s discretion and whether or not he chooses to make it part of the offender’s permanent service record. In addition, the seven SEALs were made to forfeit half their pay for two months.

The deputy commander of Naval Special Warfare Command, Rear Adm. Garry Bonelli, issued a statement acknowledging that nonjudicial punishments had been handed out for misconduct, but he did not offer any details.

Okay, so someone is not reporting the news right. Seven were punished, but they were already out of the Navy? And four are about to be punished, but they are active-duty? If you are retired or have left active-duty, an NJP means nothing to you. I think the writer of this article mixed up the four and the seven. The active-duty guys were NJP’d. I am not sure what exactly they do to retirees or Sailors who have left the Navy traitorously early. (For all those who have served, I am only kidding with the traitor label. Thanks for your service. We need service-members who do four year hitches. Not everyone should do twenty. We would have no room for everyone to serve. And we would be very top-heavy.)

  1. I don’t see the problem. What ever is secret today will be in fiction books, games and general conversation tomorrow…if not this afternoon. Training and stuff change constantly and secret stuff today is obsolete tomorrow. I know that training is training and will always be part of the curriculum, but all military types, including civilian peeps who study military stuff, already know most of it anyway.

    • I think they were punished just to send a message. They did not ask their Commander’s permission. They just went out and did.

  2. For what it’s worth;

At their level of operations there should be only one type of release and that is an official one through the appropriate channels. It avoids internal “he said-you said” situations (also referred to as ‘bun’ fights) when the doo-doo hits the fan.

Coffeypot is right in as much that change happens frequently, but my feeling is that information should come through one source.

One day something may just slip out that eventually causes loss of life; explain that to the loved ones left behind. If SF personnel want to play movie stars as well as serve then they have to make a choice.

It needs nipping in the bud now!

    Yours Aye.

    • That’s already happened, Ex-Bootneck…our illustrious NYTs and the WaPo seems to find it necessary to blab everything to the American people and our known enemies involving national security, so nothing is a secret….a lot of people have been endangered because of the Democrat party putting it in the news media; we used to have double-agents who have had to go into hiding because the MSM can’t keep its collective mouth shut….great….I feel I wasted a perfectly good career and time doing what I thought had meaning and significance only to find out, it wasn’t so…over twenty years wasted at the whim of a newspaper, not to mention the traitors who give it to the enemy (i.e. the Walker case…a family of traitors)….k

      • You did not waste 20 years. You did what was right for your Country. They WILL get theirs. I have it on good authority they always do, we just might not see it.

  3. What about the current administrations helping the producers of “Seal Team Six”, the movie?
Oh yeah, they are still investigating that leak.
    sigh, we’re doomed.

    • Well, I’d be willing to bet that’s just complete utter hype to make you know who look good; and he needs that more than the SEALs do….my roommate was spinning around the dial an hour or so ago and that came up on the military (?) channel??? I don’t know ….more horse and cow excrement to be offloaded on the American people…you know what is said GIGO (Garbage in, garbage out)….and obviously we have too much information to assimilate that no one wants to get into….there’s no such thing as discriminating taste….at least not in this culture….k

  4. EB: I understand and agree. It needs to stop, at all levels. Political and military.
Kris: Don’t get me started on the press!
SaW: Doomed, we may be. . .
