Marathon Specialist Augustus Maiyo

A specialist at running marathons, Augustus Maiyo, has won the Marine Corps Marathon. Whoops, my editors are informing me that Augustus Maiyo is actually Specialist Augustus Maiyo of the United States Army. He ran the race in the leisurely pace of two hours, twenty minutes and twenty seconds. That time sounds very symmetric:

Augustus Maiyo crosses the finish line as he wins the Marine Corps Marathon

Captain Kenny Foster finished third. (And he ran with no watch.) For all Marines reading the linked article, please read and heed the last sentence on proper military decorum around a Sailor.

  1. My neighbor and I are hosting a family 5-K turkey trot on Thanksgiving morning. Chances are, I will walk the 5-K. Running a marathon is just crazy.

  2. You know Lou, upon reflection, I spent almost twenty-two years in the US military or at least affiliated with it in some respects (that AF and ANG time).. and we didn’t start the PFT business until I was about half-way through my career….I hated it and still do…but now that I’m remarkably older and wiser (but still young at heart), I do walk and find myself feeling better with a consistent regimen…like I said, I still hate the running part, but exercise is always a good thing….and I also like to eat and partake of adult beverages on that odd occasion…k

    • I don’t mind a regular exercise program although I’d rather be playing a sport. But running is hard on the body. Walking is better. Riding a bike is best.

  3. Lou: Heck, walking the thing is an accomplishment!
Kris: I am going to tell the command fitness leader (CFL) on you. . .
