A Feminist Gets on the Navy?

Remember Alfred Eisenstaedt’s iconic picture titled Kissing Sailor?

Kissing Sailor in Times Square

A feminist blogger takes issue with the pose, with the Sailor. With the woman being “forced” to smooch the Squid:

Unrestrained celebration or forceful assault? One feminist blogger is saying that the iconic Times Square kiss was the latter.

London-based blogger “Leopard” wrote that Alfred Eisenstaedt’s “Kissing Sailor” photo taken on VJ Day shows an act of sexual assault based on comments from the woman in the photo, Huffington Post reported.

“It wasn’t my choice to be kissed,” said Greta Zimmer Friedman, identified as the woman in the photo. “The guy just came over and grabbed!”

Another website, Feministing.com, pointed out the woman’s body language, including her clenched fist and limp body.

I don’t know. Even if he grabbed a random woman and kissed her, fine. Is that so wrong?

  1. Really? She looks like she’s being, what? – assaulted? Maybe by today’s metrosexual metrics. I dunno, I’m a Crocodillian – I like what Anais Nin said and I think it applies to real, true, American women – “I, with a deeper instinct, choose a man who compels my strength, who makes enormous demands on me, who does not doubt my courage or my toughness, who does not believe me naive or innocent, who has the courage to treat me like a woman.

  2. OK – f**k the NOW Hags. The world changed when women got the vote. They don’t belong in combat. They don’t belong in combat Ops. I’m not sorry and I never will be. War is for warriors- not for Barbie warriotes. Homosexual or otherwise. If you can do the job, bring it on – otherwise, shut the fuck up and sit down.

  3. Chances are that everyone on the street during that picture was celebrating and probably lots of women were kissed. I doubt if it came as that big a surprise to the woman, and I doubt she felt like she was assaulted – just well kissed. Anyone complaining on behalf of the kissed woman, is probably just jealous. And chances are those whiners will never be kissed like that.

  4. The “clenched fist” is a hand holding her skirt down. Are the feminists so desperate for something to scream about that they are looking 67 years in the past to find it?

  5. Well, what could we have possibly expected from these people? Such women cannot or will not complain about the misogyny of those who practice the ‘religion of peace’ today that has been in evidence for fourteen hundred years and that this so-called ‘faith’ is for men only, but can go after something done in celebration and happiness sixty-seven years ago and in our victory….which underscores who and what these feminists really are…phonies, frauds and liars….thanks for pointing it out Navy One…k

  6. I’m sure everyone except the androphobic femigogue “Leopard” has noticed that Miss Zimmer is hardly pushing the sailor away or fighting him off.
