Marines at the Oscars?

I can’t make heads or tails of this story. Michael Moore is someone who has no credibility to put out an honest story without distorting it. So is he encouraging a documentary filmmaker to bring a Marine on stage with him at the Oscars:

Other nominated documentary film subjects expected to attend the Oscars include Bill Courtney, the white coach of an all-black, inner-city high-school football team featured in “Undefeated,” and Sgt. Nathan Harris, a Marine injured in Afghanistan whose emotional struggle to transition back to life in North Carolina is depicted in “Hell and Back Again.”

“I would encourage you, if any of you win, to bring them to the stage,” filmmaker and academy documentary branch officer Michael Moore, who moderated the panel discussion with the nominees, told the filmmakers. “I know you’ve been told not to, but as the governor of your branch, I will be there, and I’ll block any security that tries to prevent it.”

Sergeant Nathan Harris? In a documentary called Hell and Back? I am sure that land manatee Michael Moore is up to his old tricks. . .

  1. Despite Michael Moore being Michael Moore the two docs should be treated as their own entities. Let’s take Hell and Back Again; a great doc that shows the difficulty of transitioning from being on the frontlines to being injured back home. Forgetting what Moore said; I think if they deserve to go on stage if they win.

  2. I got a comment from “SGT Nathan Harris.” He says:

I would love to get to be on the stage. Thank You for being the only one to even mention this. That would be honoring someone that could be going on stage for thousands upon thousands, not just one or two!!
    I will be there!!”

Is it real? Maybe. Or not. I emailed him. And offered to spread his story. Or to help him with a blog of his own. Time will tell.
